I have been invited to write about my “getting back into shape” journey on the weighdownes blog, therefore I have decided to cease my journal about it here. Please feel free to venture over and check it out. For those of you who are in the same boat, I think you will find it somewhat inspiring. The blog is still in the beginning stages, but I believe it will prove to offer much more as time goes on.
3 My “getting back into shape” journey February 15, 2008
I have decided that living a healthy life is not all that bad. Of course, it has only been a couple of days, and I am sure there will be more testing times along the way. I have been pleasantly surprised at how much easier it is than I thought it would be. Maybe it is this writing about it on a daily basis that is helping me pay more attention. It makes me feel more accountable for the decisions I make because I know I am going to write about my day.
Now that I have written about my feelings on how hard the journey feels, lets take a look at yesterday. First the diet.
*breakfast- an apple and black coffee
*lunch- 1 grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup and an apple. WATER, of course, to drink
*dinner- homemade pizza and WATER to drink
*junk- two homemade donuts, two Kalibers (non-alcoholic beer)
Now that I see my diet written out, I can better critique it. Breakfast could have been improved by eating something more such as the bowl of oatmeal I had the previous morning. Lunch was great! I was careful to make my sandwich with only one piece of cheese and minimal butter. I felt very satisfied after completing the meal with the apple. Dinner wasa bit heavy, though. I made a homemade pizza dough that was delicious, but I am sure it was laden with calories. The pizza was also layered with pepperoni and bacon pieces. On a positive note, I only ate two pieces and I did drink WATER along with the meal. What I definitely should not have eaten were the donuts. I was trying to make homemade donuts for my children to eat for desert and I hadto test them out. They were awful, by the way 😦 The beers, well, I know I could have done without, but it is only an occasional thing. Sometimes, when I get the rare privilege of watching a few of the TV shows I have recorded I also like to enjoy one (or two) of my fake beers. I can justify the beer since it is only rarely.
Now for the exercise.
*I worked out my stomach muscles by kneading three batches of dough.
Okay, yes, the exercise category is sad. I did not get on that machine. By the time the evening came I was so dreadfully tired! But, I woke up this morning with aching stomach muscles! I did not realize at the time, but I was giving myself a very serious ab workout by kneading that dough.
In my reflection, I can see two things to improve from yesterday. I need to eat a real breakfast. I also need to just say noto the junk! Exercise seems to be my hardest challenge. I think about it everyday, and I believe that in due time I will get more in the habit. With the weather being what it is I am trapped in the house. I much prefer to be outdoors in which I get tonsmore exercise.
2 My “getting back into shape” journey February 14, 2008
I spent 20 minutes on my elliptical machine. Yep, I finally got on that dreadful thing! Actually, it wasn’t so dreadful. I even enjoyed my time spent on it. I found some music on-line and pumped it through the speakers in which are attached to my laptop. I almost felt like I was at a dance party. Okay, maybe not so much a dance party, but it was still more fun than I anticipated.
As for my consumption for the day, I did quite well. I know I mentioned some of what I ate in the morning, but here is a full list…
-oatmeal with an apple for breakfast along with coffee- black;-)
-a few pieces of chicken (okay, they were nuggets, but onlya few), another apple, a banana, and WATER for lunch
-lastly, dinner was left over spaghetti with a home made pasta sauce and garlic sticks. The content of dinner probably wasn’t the healthiest, but the key was portion size. I had a realistic sized plate and I did not have seconds. Oh, and I almost forgot, WATER to drink.
I feel that I did pretty good yesterday. I can’t wait for the day when all these actions become habits in which I won’t have to put much thought and energy into creating. Perhaps someday that will be my reality.
My ‘getting back into shape’ Journey February 13, 2008
Okay, so I still have not gotten in the excersize routine. I know I have only been writing about this for a few days, but in reality I have been saying that excersize is my plan for the past two months.
On a more positive note, I can say that I have (for two days at least) made improvements in my diet. Sugar has been a huge culprit against my effort to get healthy, but I have successfully cut it out of my coffee. (That may not seem like much, but I am use to consuming at least the equivalent to about 1/2 cup of sugar a day!) I had oatmeal for breakfast along with an apple to add flavor instead of the usual butter and syrup. I can also say that I was very good about eating smaller portions for lunch and dinner yesterday. I did add more water to my intake, but I could increase it.
So, for today my goal is drinking more water and GETTING ON THAT MACHINE!
getting started (getting back into shape) February 12, 2008
Okay, I didn’t get started on the good health journey yesterday. I am not going to write all the reasons why, simply because not a one of them is really a good enough reason.
Thanks to Cindy for checking in on me, I feel more motivated to get started today. I think the getting started part of changing such large habits is the hardest part. So, for today, my plan is as follows….
1. no sugar in my coffee
2. drink more water
3. excersize at least 20 minutes on my eliptical machine.
4. no nibbling on my children’s lunches or snacks (I have more appropriate food for myself to be eating.)
Wish me luck! I am looking forward to writing a more positive post about this tomorrow.
Getting Back In Shape…..UGGGHHHH! February 11, 2008
I have been saying now for about the last month that I am planning on getting back into shape. Yes, I know, who isn’t saying that this time of year? Well, as I have gained much weight after birthing my two babies and have failed to get it off….LOL… I really do need to get back into shape.
I think I have found the perfect motivation! I fellow blogging friend has started a blog dedicated to just this subject, Weigh Downes, and I think it will prove to be exactly what I need to get me motivated- support! If you, too, are needing to go on the journey of gaining your health back, check it out.
Thank you Cindy 🙂
